Who's building Day2

Ed Shaw

Co-founder · Movement · owner of Peak Fitness gym · 15 years training people with neurological conditions

I own Peak Fitness, a gym in the Cotswolds, and I've spent fifteen years on its floor and others training people with neurological conditions. That is a very good education in the difference between what the textbook says and what a Tuesday actually allows. Good days, off days, days when turning up was the whole workout. All of it counts, and all of it has shaped what Day2 asks of people.

Matt and I met at Peak Fitness, a while after his Parkinson's diagnosis. Training him taught me something his consultants couldn't see from a clinic: the gap between a fifteen-minute appointment and the 364 days around it. Day2 is our answer to that gap. He brings the lived experience and twenty years of building brands; I bring every session I've ever coached.

How the sessions are built

Every movement session in Day2 comes from work I've done in a room with real people. Nothing in there is theoretical. The sessions adapt to how you're actually moving today, because the right amount on a stiff morning is different from the right amount on a good one, and the worst programme is the one you quietly stop doing. Little and often beats the occasional heroic effort, every time.

The evidence for exercise in Parkinson's is strong and getting stronger, from falls prevention to the trials on training intensity. Where the research is clear, we follow it. Where it's early, we say so. And where something belongs to your clinical team, like anything to do with medication, we say that too, every time.

Beyond the app

I also lead Day2's work with fitness professionals, helping trainers around the UK get properly skilled at coaching people with Parkinson's, because one good local trainer changes more lives than any app alone. If you're a fitness professional who wants to work with this community, get in touch.
